07.11.2024 | Roche's pRED wins ‘Lab of the Year Award’
In close collaboration with Waldner, Roche has created pRED (short for Pharma Research and Early Development Centre) in Basel; a place that not only impresses with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, but also promotes an atmosphere of joint research and discovery. This pioneering project has now been honoured with the ‘Lab of the Year Award 2024’ from the industry association SEFA in the USA.
‘This success is proof that we can successfully plan and implement even the most complex projects with passion and expertise,’ says Jochen Früh, CEO of the Waldner Group. ‘We are grateful for the trust that Roche has placed in us.’ The new pRED Center in Basel represents a vision that goes far beyond what has been realised in research to date. The ‘Lab of the Year 2024’ award underlines the outstanding achievement and innovative thinking that was necessary to realise this project.
Roche's pRED was a project of superlatives for Waldner, which has certainly set new standards in the industry and will continue to do so. More than 50 Waldner employees were continuously involved in this major project over a period of six years. The impressive figures speak for themselves: 22,000 sockets, for example, were installed here - roughly equivalent to the number of sockets in 550 detached houses. Waldner installed over 250 fume hoods, over 400 media columns and more than 2 km of service spines here. These figures illustrate the enormous scale of the project and the challenges that the team had to overcome.
As part of pRED, Waldner has worked with Roche to further develop existing products and create new standards for design solutions, such as the Secuflow-Vision fume hood, which brings more light and safety into laboratories thanks to its high proportion of glazed components. ‘We are very proud of this special international recognition,’ emphasises Markus Bieg, CTO of the Waldner Group and Head of Lab Space Solutions. ‘This success is a testament to the passion and expertise of our employees. They have all played a key role in enabling us to realise a project with pRED that meets the highest scientific and technical standards.’ The ‘Lab of the Year Award 2024’ is not only recognition for the pRED project, but also an incentive for Waldner to continue developing innovative solutions for the challenges of the future.
Roche's pRED Center, an innovative research and early development centre, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Lab of the Year Award 2024’ by the SEFA. This award underlines the outstanding work of the Roche teams and the importance of the pRED Center as a pioneer in pharmaceutical research.
The pRED Centre was designed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and create an environment in which scientists can realise their most innovative ideas. The flexible layout of the laboratories and offices, which are located side by side, favours the exchange of ideas and the creation of new research projects.
